"We play music as well as Metallica writes novels." --Dave Barry

"Your band's not too bad. It's not too good either. Don't let it get any better, otherwise you'll just be another lousy band." --Bruce Springsteen

Dave Barry's Weird News

"Between  them the Remainders have published over 150 titles, sold over 200 million books, and have been translated into over 25 languages, but for one week a year they are rock stars--"Artist Access Only"-laminate-wearing, security-escorted rock stars -- with roadies and groupies."

The Remainders include Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson, Stephen King, Scott Turow, Amy Tan, and many other writers. Three ringers help them out: drummer Josh Kelly, Erasmo Paolo on saxophone and Sam Barry on harmonica.

The Remainders were founded by Kathi Kamen Goldmark "In the fine rock & roll tradition, The Rock Bottom Remainders were conceived in a car. "As a semi-pro musician with a day job in book publicity, I spend a lot of time driving touring authors around San Francisco . . . I decided to form a band of authors!"

They burst upon the world at the 1992. The Remainders played at the opening weekend of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 1995. A recap of that experience ran in one of Dave Barry's columns. The column by Dave Barry on playing with Bruce Springsteen is also a must read. (See the link below)

The Remainders have no music videos, no record contract, no Grammy nominations but have over 10,000 hits on Google.

"When you're in the middle of playing a song, what are you thinking? I mean, are you thinking about the song? Or are you thinking, 'I am so rich?'" --Steve Martin, interviewing the band at a special event, Besides the Music, on the Los Angeles leg of the Fire in the Belly Tour (April /03)
